Villefranche-sur-Mer: The Perfect Base for the Côte d’Azur

 

Choosing where to stay along the Côte d’Azur can be overwhelming, but Villefranche-sur-Mer turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. Nestled between Nice and Monaco, it has all the charm of a seaside village without the crowds.

Colourful buildings line the waterfront, cafés spill onto narrow streets, and everything seems to move at an unhurried pace. From here, it was easy to explore in every direction - Cannes 45 minutes west, Italy about an hour east, Monaco less than half an hour, and Nice right next door - along with countless hilltop towns and coastal villages scattered in between.

After long days of exploring, coming “home” to Villefranche each evening felt like returning to our own little corner of the Riviera. For me, the quiet mornings and watching the sun rise over Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat more than made up for the cooler January weather.
